Global Ethic

The DRI supports and promotes the idea of the Global Ethic. The Global Ethic is an attempt to establish a consensus and a basic set of ethical values with which all of humanity can agree. It is based on the great world religions, but also on cultural and philosophical traditions.

The Global Ethic was conceived and brought into being by the theologian Hans Küng and is now represented by the Global Ethic Foundation (Tübingen, Germany).

The main points of the Global Ethic are set out in the Global Ethic Declaration adopted on 4 September 1993:

1. the principle of humanity,

2. the "Golden Rule" and

3. the "Four Immovable Instructions": nonviolence, justice, truthfulness, partnership and equality between men and women.
